Craigallian Loch, Strathblane, Stirling District, Scotland

Our journey along the West Highland Way will proceed in the direction in which most people walk it: northwards. If you were to walk the thing in one fell swoop, this could be the first taste of wildness that you get following the more manicured environs of Mugdock Wood. The countryside is open, and you are not cosseted by woodland. The loch in question is hiding in the early morning shadows to the right, but those tantalising hills in the distance are the Campsie Fells. Keep going north, and you'll see much more of them. In fact, the next photo will grant you a closer view.
