Loch Druidibeag, Stilligarry, South Uist, Western Isles, Scotland

Such is the low-lying nature of North Uist, Benbecula and South Uist that it is easy to see why lochs abound everywhere. Looking at a map might persuade you that there is a lack of dry land hereabouts, but there is more around than you would be led to expect. Large lochs like Druidibeag are there to see too and the northern reaches of South Uist contain some higher ground as you can see from the summits surrounding Hecla in this photo. Getting to those involves crossing some rough and confusing ground so that is an activity for those more familiar with navigating such terrain.
