Castell de Bellver, Palma, Mallorca, Spain

Many a time, I got to a place without fully reading up on it and this inadvertent approach has the added advantage of keeping an open mind when seeing what is there. It often makes more of an explorer than a tourist, yet it is in the act of visiting somewhere anew that you build the foundations for future explorations. The photo here takes the viewer across a partially hidden flotilla of stationary sailing boats towards a verdant hillside cloaked in tree cover. It is within those trees that I spotted a castle that I had not expected to see, Castell de Bellver. This is open to the public though I was drawn elsewhere and never got to wander about it for myself.
