This was one of the last photos that I made on an adventurous hike that occupied me on New Year's Day in 2019. If I thought that most of the ardour was behind, the effect of a downhill gradient of unrelenting steepness on the joints of tired limbs was enough to change such an impression once I saw the way being pointed out by a family group continuing ahead of me. For me, progress was necessarily slow so that they hardly intruded on my evening though also meant that I needed to wait longer for a bus back to Santa Cruz. If anything, that extra time of rest helped after what was a punishing descent and enforced the idea of taking it easier the next day.
