Because of its strategic position in the Atlantic, Tenerife is not without its collection of fortified buildings and here is one from Puerto de la Cruz. The structure dates from the seventeenth century and fell into disrepair before restoration in the nineteenth century. Aside from a period as a defensive installation, it has seen uses as diverse as hospitality and healthcare but today acts as an exhibition space for art from time to time.
