Las Cadenitas, Parque Rural de Anaga, Tenerife, Spain

Sometimes, it is amazing where you get to find houses. On my out and back walk from Santa Cruz, I ventured into seemingly empty countryside only to find a collection of households at the turning point of my hike. The terrain might involve steep hillsides, yet there were people living there in spite of the apparent travel difficulties. There were tracks, but these did not seem to be sufficient to get in the building materials needed for any constructions even if the TF-12 was not so far away.

Vantage points like Cabezo del Viento and Pico del Ingles also lay temptingly near at hand, but I persisted with going from the upper reaches of Barranco de Valle Luis into Barranco de Valleseco to start on the return leg of my circuit. After all, it was New Year's Eve 2018 despite all appearances to the contrary in the above photo. Legs were tiring too because of the steep slopes and other hikes lay ahead of me in the following days.
