Drottningholm Palace, Stockholm, Sweden

In some ways, my visit to Drottningholm Palace was a serendipitous affair that was prompted by my seeing excursion boats near Stockholm's city hall after pottering about its city centre. Being reminded of boating trips taken around fjords during my trip to Norway earlier in the year, I embarked on a repeat experience in a different Scandinavian country.

The sailing that took me to the palace withdrew me from the city centre and, as it did so, I was wondering if I would have enough time to explore around the place in order to catch the last sailing back again because of my time of departure. In the event, such problems did not arise, and I did not need to resort to land travel for the return trip.

Happily, I did not need to skimp on my explorations either and the sunny day kept me out of doors all the while as I pottered about the grounds. The often seen shoreline view was not on offer because of where the sun was, so I headed to the sunlit side instead. The change of position did not to limit satisfaction and I returned to those more urban surroundings to get even more of the day's wanderings.
