Kopparmärra, Kungsportsplatsen, Göteborg, Sweden

There was a time when this album was populated with photos of statues made with a Canon PowerShot G11 compact camera that I no longer have; it is best not to hang onto something that you no longer need, and it dated from 2010 anyway. This one dates from the trip in 2017 when I got as far as a day trip to Göteborg. The composition that you see above took a little work so that buildings were excluded from a view of the sunlit side of the statue.

It gets the name of Copper Mare when you translate it from Swedish though it commemorates King Karl IX in reality. His reign as king of Sweden was a short one beset with largely unsuccessful military campaigns, but it came at the end of a longer life that featured a longer stint as the Duke of Södermanland until he forced his predecessor, the nephew of his brother, to abdicate after losing a battle thus ensuring that Sweden regained a Protestant ruler.
