Kungliga Slottet, Gamla Stan, Stockholm, Sweden

What you see here is Sweden's counterpart to London's Buckingham Palace. They may look different but the same hard-edged geometric profile is shared in common. Kungliga Slottet though is sited not only on the side of a street but also near where land meets sea while its British counterpart is set well back from both. After those distinctions, you also have different construction materials because of differences in local geology to go with different histories happening in each place. Even with all of this, there are echoes of similarity, so it might be that nations are not as different from each other as we might be tempted to believe, a useful lesson in an age when exceptionalism is causing so much political upheaval.
