On the day that I walked from Grindelwald to Kleine Scheidegg, the Eiger remained shrouded in cloud, denying me any sunlit views other than the above. Even without seeing more of its nordwand, I felt far from short-changed. There had been plenty of sunlit sights and I got as far as I wanted before catching the train down to Grindelwald again to start back to Geneva after a well-earned rest after the ascent. What surprised me was how well my legs bore up to the 1000-metre height gain and that it was my lungs that were having to work harder as I neared Kleine Scheidegg. Now that I compare both days, the cloud cover on the second day probably meant that I did not stop as much between Alpiglen and Kleine Scheidegg as I did lower down and all the day around the circuit that I covered around Zermatt. Slowing oneself down at altitude is another use for sunlit views that never occurred me until now.
