Matterhorn, Zermatt, Valais, Switzerland

That whitened pillar of rock with cloud attached to the side of it is the cause of so many coming to Zermatt. It certainly drew me too and 2015 was the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary of Matterhorn's first ascent. That itself sadly was not without tragedy since deaths occurred on the descent, and I was more than happy to admire the lofty heights from below. Something had not occurred to me was how much else there was to see, and in better positions to avoid a blue cast appearing in any photos too. Still, it was a delight to see the inspiration for so many other local "Matterhorns" for real and show up how different Cheshire's Shutlingsloe appears in comparison.
