Abergavenny Castle, Monmouthshire, Wales

Moving away form the canal, we journey into Abergavenny itself to take in a view of its castle. All that remains of the castle these days are the old walls. That building you see behind is a nineteenth century addition; what was once a hunting lodge is now a museum. In its heyday, the castle was a Norman stronghold and witnessed the massacre of Welsh chiefs by the Norman lord William de Braose within its walls in 1175.
