Caernarfon Castle is one of Wales' quintessential landmarks and dates from the thirteenth century, like the walls surrounding the old part of the town. The castle was one of those built by King Edward I, but fortifications have stood here for longer than that though and the Romans had a fort nearby when they held sway over the area. The 1969 investiture of Prince Charles as the Prince of Wales brought the antiquity not only to national attention but also onto television too.
