Cwm Idwal, Ogwen Valley, Gwynedd, Wales

Cwm Idwal does make a good place for climbers to practice their craft and a few were out and about on my first visit here. Llyn Idwal laps a shore to the right of the path, and you would be forgiven for thinking the place a walking dead end. However, there is a rocky staircase needs a reasonable head for heights to ascend or descend it. First though, you have to get to it and one option will take you on a precarious looking crossing of a waterfall, which is why I took an alternative less challenging course on subsequent visits.
