Pen yr Ole Wen, Ogwen Valley, Gwynedd, Wales

Appearances can be deceptive, and there is little indication of the brutality of the descent the lies ahead. With patience, trembling limbs can be calmed to get you down, but I had the advantage of using it for an uphill course on a previous visit. All the while, Pen yr Ole Wen looms ahead of you views over Llyn Idwal and the Ogwen Valley opening out before you. Thankfully, I was rewarded on both July days with wonderful evenings when I passed this way.
