My zeal for finding quieter trails eventually drew me out from under the tree cover for a little while. However, "Carl the Fog" ensured that any hoped for wider views were unavailable to me. Nevertheless, it intrigued me to see how fog could form so thickly on an otherwise sunny day. It is all a matter of ocean currents and how cool they can be. In time, I returned to the woods and got something to eat in advance of more strolling.

There came a time though when I had my fill of Muir Woods, and so I caught an earlier shuttle back to Sausalito than I had planned. This meant a wait to see if there was a seat for me, but my altered plans worked in the event. Even with pre-booked services, there can be some flexibility.
