The sweltering heat was really to be felt around San Rafael, and I was happy to get away from there to Point Reyes National Seashore. Because I did not get as far as the coast, that did not mean that I entirely escaped the warmth. While Mount Wittenberg is not that high, the way up there involved some sweaty progress before gradients eased; even the forest cover did little to stop that. If I was hoping for wider views, that got quashed by the tree cover and any designs on a longer circuit were thwarted by a path closure. That probably was just as well given my nervousness about getting a bus back to San Rafael for a connection to San Francisco. After all, this had been the furthest that I travelled away from where I was staying.
