San Francisco does have a number of nearby beaches. However, many of them share the same restriction: currents in the sea make them unsuitable for swimming. That did little to stop surfers from what I could see, though they are absent from this photo. Nevertheless, there was no shortage of warning signs installed by the National Park Service, who manage this coastline for public enjoyment. Near Ocean Beach, the wording gets so stark as to state that people have died. On sunny days though, there is plenty of space on the sand for everyone while I continued on my way, preferring to hike instead of taking a more sedentary approach to things. Keeping active is what works for me.
